From source:
Near antonyms are words that do not qualify as antonyms under the strict definition used for this thesaurus but that clearly have meanings in marked contrast with the members of a synonym group. For example, afraid is not so exactly opposite to courageous as cowardly is, but afraid and courageous certainly have markedly contrasting meanings and so are considered near antonyms. And just as a user may not be seeking a word that is exactly synonymous with another, he or she may likewise not be seeking a word that is exactly opposite. The user may simply want a word that lies somewhere on the opposite side of the range of meaning.

Would mild and rich (describing food) be considered antonyms?
yes
bland and rich would be better examples thoughWould mild and rich (describing food) be considered antonyms?
I don't think that quite fits. As the first answerer said, bland works muhc better.Would mild and rich (describing food) be considered antonyms?
I don't think so. Bland would be an excellent antonym for flavourful which is not necessarily the same as rich, which I would use to describe nourishing or calorific. For example,a French cream sauce is certainly rich but of mild flavour.
I would contrast mild with tangy or spicy, and rich with watery.Would mild and rich (describing food) be considered antonyms?
The dictionary refers to rich as (of food) delectably and perhaps unhealthfully spicy, or sweet and abounding in butter or cream: a rich gravy; a rich pastry. It is more commonly used in reference to something that is sweet, or has lots of butter or cream in it, not spicy. I'd not consider mild as a good antonym for rich.skin blackheads

Can you give me four antonyms for the word "paraphernalia?"?
Paraphernalia is a noun.
Definition: personal belongings
Definition: Equipment associated with a particular activity
Synonyms: apparatus, baggage, gearCan you give me four antonyms for the word "paraphernalia?"?
You do know antonym means "opposite", right? A synonym is a word of the same or like meaning. I guess, in that context, "item" might be an antonym for "paraphernalia" since it is a single piece and "paraphernalia" is a plural word. Antonyms usually include adverbs, verbs and adjectives, not so often, nouns. For example, there are no antonyms for "bees", "cows" etc. Do you see what I mean? Paraphernalia is a word in that group. Can you give me four antonyms for the word "paraphernalia?"?

Does anyone have two good synonmyns and antonyms for "tollbooth"?
There aren't any listed in online thesaureses.
However, thinking creatively, synonyms could include fare-gate [a place to pay a fare] or turnstile [place to pay subway fare] if you mean "a place to pay a fare/toll for passage."
If you mean a small enclosed place, there is booth, closet, box, enclosure, etc.
An antonym for "tollbooth" would be something like a "free passage gate" or "fare-free entrance."

Who was your last slave
You need a book called a 'thesaurus.' A thesaurus is like a dictionary but slightly different. It has words in alphabetical order like a dictionary, but instead of definitions it just lists similar words beside each entry. These similar words would be the synonyms. At the very end of the list is usually a one word antonym. (You could also look this word up too, to get a list of antonyms, if you wanted to.) If you don't have a thesaurus of your own and can't get one, perhaps if you google 'thesaurus' there might be on-line versions you can use.10 points if you can find antonyms and synonyms for these fifteen words?

Do English dictionaries give the antonyms of each word?
No. Not every word has an antonym. Dictionaries give the definitions and origins of the word. A thesaurus gives synonyms and antonyms but that is separate from a dictionary.Do English dictionaries give the antonyms of each word?
Many do, but not all. Generally, the more expensive a dictionary, the more additional features you purchase. Dictionary.com gives plenty of antonyms for words in case you're finding the print dictionaries a bit lacking.

Is passing the Antonyms GRE part possible?
I took the gre test already and I have to take the verbal part over again. I really failed that part. Is there any way to pass the antonyms questions in terms of tricks besides trying to memorize 5,000 words that can't be done?Is passing the Antonyms GRE part possible?
Well, I just practice words everyday. Like when I read the newspaper or if I'm just web surfing, I write down words that I don't know the meaning of, then look up the definitions and learn them. I also try to use them in my everyday conversation so that it sinks in. The only way to learn is to practice. There's a few GRE practice tests online. Try www.princetonreview.com. I know it doesn't compare to the real test, but atleast you can practice until it becomes easier. If you really need to, use flash cards, have a friend quiz you, or pay for a practice course. Basically, do whatever you need to in order to score higher on the next exam - the GRE is not cheap, as you now know. Good luck!

What are synonyms and antonyms for unit 10 level b!!!?
a synonym for unit is "device", "item", "single piece"...or it could also be "apartment". (this is a nice unit. How much is the rent? etc.)
and antonym for unit is "multiplicity" "dichotomy" "trichotomy" or anything that means more than one.
this is a strange question, by the way. Usually people ask for a synonym for a particular word. But you SPELLED both words correctly so you're probably not some loser. I'm even thinking that my answers won't help you in the slightest degree.

i need an antonym for the word
if thats possibleIs there a possible antonyms for the gas zyklon B?
"Death"
"Disturbing"
"Killer" Maybe those will do?!Is there a possible antonyms for the gas zyklon B?
Zyklin B is poison.
Antonym of poison is antidote. Or nectar, or something beneficial...Is there a possible antonyms for the gas zyklon B?
If you mean a synonym repeating Zyklon B should not be a problem as that was the trade name, but the active ingredient was hydrogen cyanide (HCN).
An antonym would be the opposite. I don't think you can have an opposite for a name, but you could use adjectives such as harmless, safe, beneficial (opposites to the idea of dangerous/poisonous).
Hope this helps.

Is shrug and toss antonyms or snyonyms?
They are neither to one another. Shrug meaning to lift up ones shoulders as in disbelief or 'don't know attitude'
Whereas toss means to throw, as toss a ball or some object. The two words are not related at all.Is shrug and toss antonyms or snyonyms?
Then how else would you find a word similar word to another (synonym) and word that contrasts it (antonym)? Is shrug and toss antonyms or snyonyms?
Really they are neither antonyms nor synonyms. I suppose you could "force" them to be synonyms and suggest that someone "tossed their shoulders back" or "shrugged their shoulders", but again...I don't think the two are either synonyms nor antonyms.

Can "specific" and "comprehensive" be considered near-antonyms? And what are formal antonyms of the latter?
I'm a philosophy major--and hence I think a lot, write a lot, think about writing, write about thinking, and of course, like to do those things listed above.
I was thinking that something maybe be able to be quite specific yet also comprehensive...but that seems oxymoronic. And the reverse which is nearly the same: comprehensive yet specific, though I find this one to be even more oxymoronic because of the word order, of course.
What so you guys think? Can "specific" and "comprehensive" be considered near-antonyms? And what are formal antonyms of the latter?
I think something can be both simultaneously, specific in it's exclusiveness yet comprehensive in all of it's characters. If you want to dwell on semantics, then you will never accomplish anything! Can "specific" and "comprehensive" be considered near-antonyms? And what are formal antonyms of the latter?
A better antonym for "specific" would be "generic" or "general".Can "specific" and "comprehensive" be considered near-antonyms? And what are formal antonyms of the latter?
I don't think it's "oxymoronic" at all. I think specific means one particular thing and comprehensive means all encompassing. However specific yet comprehensive sounds logical.

I need antonyms and synonyms of that word. What are some antonyms and synonyms of this word? ?
I don't think you'll find a synonym for dermatology. It is the branch of medicine that deals with the skin and diseases affecting the skin. There is no corresponding term, unless you're thinking of a phrase, such as Skin Care. But that's not as precise. Skin care could be anything; it's not a medical term.
And an antonym? That would be like looking for the opposite of cardiac care, wouldn't it?

What are antonyms to these words?
shrew-i need antonym
sydrome-i need antonym
paper due tommorow!
answer fast and correctly!
PLEASE
first person to answer both gets best answer! What are antonyms to these words?
Did your teacher actually ask you to find antonyms to those words without giving you multiple choices or any additional information? I was an A student in English and I still take pride in my vocabulary, but I'd be at a loss too. In the first place, shrew has two very different meanings. It can be either a very small mouse-like mammal or an overbearing woman. I can't think of an appropriate antonym for either one. What would be the antonym of a small animal? A very large animal, or something that isn't an animal at all? Neither seems quite right. For the other definition, I suppose you could use the word "saint" because that describes a nice person, but it's not exactly an antonym because a shrew is a woman and a saint could be either male or female.
Syndrome is a little more clear-cut because it means a disease or malady, but it's hard to think of a single word for absence of disease. "Health" is the first one that comes to mind, or maybe "cure" but again I don't think there's an exact antonym. What are antonyms to these words?
Antonyms of shrewd: stupid, foolish, frivolous, naive, unthinking,
Antonyms of syndrome: (there are no direct antonyms so I looked under the synonyms "ailment", "disorder", "sickness") health, order, wellness
